Ring Size Guide
Buying a ring for yourself or somebody else can be a daunting task. Fears about getting a ring that doesn't fit perfectly are common, but that's where we come in. At Francis & Gaye, we want every step of buying a ring to be relaxing and as easy as possible. Our Guide will help you discover how to measure your ring size or your loved one's at home so you can get the perfect fit.
How to Measure Ring Size
Before you're inundated with Jewellery jargon and figures, it's best to know just how to get your or your partner's ring size correct.
How to Measure With an Existing Ring
The easiest way to measure a ring size is to use a ring you or your partner already own. Measure the diameter (in mm) of your ring using a tape measure or ruler. Match this number with the corresponding letter in the UK ring size chart below. You can also download and print out our scale ring sizer and compare the diameter of your example ring to the different options on the sheet. When using this method, ensure that the ring you measure is one that you're certain fits the finger you want the new ring to be worn on.
How to Measure With an Existing Ring
Suppose you don't have an existing ring to test on; don't worry! Our printable ring sizer chart will help you find the exact size you need. Follow these simple steps:
1. Ensure you download and print our chart on A4 paper.
2. Cut around the sizer tool at the bottom of the page, ensuring you also cut the slot.
3. Place the tool around your finger and pull the thin end through the slot.
4. Pull gently until somewhat tight but mostly comfortable. The tool should still be able to slide over your knuckle.
5. Read the letter that the arrow is pointing to, and you have your size.
Ring Size Table
To find the circumference (in mm) of your finger, wrap a strip of paper just above your knuckle and mark where the ends meet. Measure between the marks to find your circumference, then check that measurement and your diameter against the table below to find your size.
Top Tips for Sizing Rings
If you're not fully sure after measuring, opt for a larger size to be safe.
The best time to measure your fingers is the evening, as this is when they're the largest.
Rings with wider bands will fit slightly tighter than thinner bands, so when measuring with a ring, choose one with a similar design to the one you wish to buy.
Avoid measuring your fingers when chilly, as your fingers can be half a size smaller than normal when you're cold.
Measure your finger at least three times to ensure you have the right size.
Be wary of bands that have diamonds encrusted all the way around. Only choose these rings if you definitely know the size you need, as they can be difficult to resize.
Use DIY measurements as a rough guide. They are not always 100% accurate.
Ways to Find Out a Ring Size in Secret
Embrace Creativity
If you can get away with it, take a ring you've noticed your partner wears on the same finger you're buying for and take it to an expert for sizing advice. Staff from our stores in Coventry and Loughborough are full of expertise that can help you get it right. If you don't think you can get the ring out of the house, compare it to our printable size guide.
Test Drive a Ring
While your partner is otherwise engaged, try on a ring they wear and mark where it comes to on your finger. Show the marking to a helpful expert in one of our stores, or compare it to our sizer chart above.
Diamonds are Foever
Fancy yourself a spy? This method will be for a braver bunch, but it could work perfectly. While asleep, gently tie a piece of string around their finger and make a knot. Do your best not to disturb them, or you'll be busted, Bond!
Call in the Ringers
This doesn't have to be a solo mission; often, the best way to get accurate sizing is by asking for help from your partner's friends and family. It can seem more natural for their friends to exchange or compare jewellery with your partner to gain a better understanding of their size without giving the game away.
Still Unsure?
