Ring stacking 101
'Ring stacking' and 'ring layering' are often used interchangeably, and both refer to the styling trend where you wear more than one ring on a single finger.
Where did ring stacking come from?
Ring stacking dates back to Roman times when it was more of a tradition than a trendy thing to do. It is said to have roots that coincide with the ancient belief that on the fourth finger on the left hand, a vein runs straight to the heart. Thus, the poignant link between bridal jewellery and the now-coined 'wedding finger' was born. Scientists have since discovered this to be a myth. However, it's a lovely story all the same.

How to stack rings
Bridal stacking rings
In keeping with tradition, the wedding ring should be placed on your finger first, followed by the engagement ring, and on top, the eternity band. This ensemble has been modelled by figures like Zara Tindall and Meghan Markle and conveys the utmost luxury. However, in modern times, many people choose their ways to style bridal rings, which aren't always the most traditional. Whichever is most you, we say!
Bridal ring stacking
At Francis & Gaye, we are proud to stock such a beautiful and versatile collection of bridal rings. From wedding and eternity rings to varying styles of engagement rings, including diamond, shoulder set and solitaire, among other decadent designs.
As times have changed, it is not uncommon for people to stack their rings, even when they aren't necessarily bridal. It's seen as fashionable to rock multiple rings on one finger.
Ring stack ideas
Among the many timeless designs at Francis & Gaye, we've picked out a few of our favourite tips to stack your rings to get those creative juices flowing.
A common way to stack rings is to incorporate minimal, dainty designs with one bolder ring that is more of a stand-out. To create a balanced ensemble, consider using pieces from your collection made from different metals, are different colours and are from different themed ranges!
- The minimal ring
Our selection of more subdued, minimal rings is perfect for stacking, particularly for the outer rings of your stack. However, minimal doesn't equal low impact with the timeless designs in our collection! One of our absolute favourite rings for this purpose is our Silver Russian Link Ring. This ring is available in many sizes and sits beautifully among the various other rings we stock.

Another wonderful option, still on the more minimal side, but for those favouring rose gold metal in their jewellery pieces, is the Rose Gold Plated Shaped Stacking Thomas Sabo ring.

2. The personality ring
Perhaps the most important factor in your choice of ring stack is that it embodies your jewellery taste and expresses you. The bold 'personality' ring is a great way to do this when creating a ring stack, and we couldn't talk about bold rings without mentioning this wonderful piece:

The Snake Wrap ring not only makes a strong statement of your personal style, but is also deeply significant, representing wisdom, healing and eternal love. The timeless silver design fits beautifully with other rings in our collection allowing for a number of stacking options.
3. The themed ring
As mentioned earlier, a wedding isn't the only theme worthy of building a ring stack around. Anything that means something to you, whether it's a momentous life event, a birthday or even a pattern or colour you love, is a worthy winner in our books.
If you're looking to add a splash of green to your ring stack, we recommend this beautiful ring:

This ring is nothing short of stunning and offers boldness through its deep green malachite inlay that draws the eye. At the same time, there is an air of beauty in the understated design, making it perfect for a ring stack.
