The limited edition Seiko Presage Classic Series HCC008J1 is created in collaboration with the Tomioka Silk Promotion Organisation, established in 2021 to protect and preserve the sericulture silk farming industry in Japan’s Tomioka region, home to the World Heritage Site of Tomioka Silk Mill. A proportion of sales of this model will be donated to the organisation, supporting the preservation of Japanese silk production. The watch celebrates this heritage through a refined design inspired by the beauty and craftsmanship of Tomioka silk.
The dial features a dramatic wave pattern inspired by the smooth lustre of silk fabric, with a pearl-painted finish capturing the delicate texture of ‘Gunma-Hoso’ silk, a premium-grade raw silk and speciality of the Tomioka region. Its ‘Shironeri’ colour represents the pure white of whitened silk before dyeing, complemented by a rose gold-coloured case and knurled bezel. The HCC008J1 is paired with a dark brown sustainable LWG-certified leather strap that echoes the red-brick charm of the Tomioka Silk Mill and is presented with a genuine silk pocket square made from locally produced Tomioka silk. The case features a super-hard coating and anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass.
Water resistant to 100m, the Seiko Presage HCC008J1 features a limited edition engraving on the caseback and is powered by the in-house 6R51 automatic calibre. The movement offers accuracy of +25/-15 seconds per day and an approximate 72-hour power reserve. As part of the Seiko Presage collection, this limited edition reflects the philosophy of timeless looks and precise mechanical timekeeping through minimalistic watch designs with a distinctly Japanese aesthetic.
