Celebrating a century of Seiko branded watches, the SJE101J1 features a striking black “dark water” design inspired by two icons of Seiko’s diving heritage: the first Japanese Diver’s watch launched in 1965 and the professional Seiko Marinemaster of the 2000s. The original 1965 Diver marked the start of Seiko’s long-standing commitment to dependable dive watches and proved its resilience on extreme expeditions to Antarctica, the North and South Poles and Mount Everest. The Marinemaster continued this legacy, purpose-built for professional divers with a robust case and strong strap.
This latest Marinemaster reinterpretation incorporates key design cues from the 1965 original, including its recognisable silhouette and distinctive hour markers. The horizontal line patterned dial delivers a refined marine-sports aesthetic, while mirrored-finish lugs enhance light reflection. Thick Lumibrite-coated hour markers ensure excellent legibility, and a sapphire exhibition case back — a first for a Seiko Diver — showcases the movement inside. Despite its box sapphire glass and display back, this is the slimmest Seiko mechanical diver at just 12.3mm.
At its heart, the SJE101J1 is powered by the new slim in-house calibre 6L37, offering strong accuracy of -10 to +15 seconds per day and a 45-hour power reserve. Meeting Seiko’s strict ISO Diving standards, this timepiece embodies the Prospex philosophy of “Professional Specifications” — watches engineered to be practical, reliable and durable in extreme or everyday environments for sports lovers and adventure seekers alike.
