The SJE119J1 is a refined re-interpretation of Japan’s — and Seiko’s — first-ever Diver’s watch, originally released in 1965 and marking the beginning of Seiko’s expertise in professional diving timepieces. From 1966 to 1969, the original model was worn by members of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition, demonstrating outstanding durability and reliability in some of the world’s most demanding environments. Drawing on this heritage, the Marinemaster name is proudly carried forward, combining historic design cues with a modern marine sports aesthetic.
Beneath box-shaped sapphire crystal glass, the deep navy dial features a textured horizontal pattern that enhances its ocean-inspired character. Mirror-finished lugs add refined contrast, while rectangular Lumibrite-coated indices recall the distinctive look of the original 1965 Diver for excellent legibility. With a more compact case than previous re-interpretations, this model closely recreates the silhouette of the original, and despite the inclusion of a sapphire exhibition case back, the super hard coated case measures just 12.3mm — making it the slimmest Seiko mechanical diver built to ISO Diving Standard.
Powering the SJE119J1 is the newly developed in-house 6L37 mechanical calibre, delivering high precision of +15 to -10 seconds per day and a 45-hour power reserve. As part of the Prospex collection — combining “Professional” and “Specifications” — this timepiece is engineered to be practical, reliable and durable, meeting the rigorous standards required by sports lovers and adventure seekers alike.
