The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer HBD002J1 is inspired by the timeless elegance of the Grand Touring world, evoking the experience of cruising long distances in style inside a beloved luxury car. The black dial features an embossed pattern inspired by endless coastal highways, complemented by silver grey accents that enhance legibility while conjuring vivid scenes of windswept roads and seaside drives. Based on the SRQ047 design, the watch features a super hard-coated bezel with a tachymeter speed measurement tool, dual-curved sapphire glass and contrasting sub-dials with a different finish for enhanced readability.
Powered by Seiko’s in-house 8R48 mechanical chronograph calibre, the HBD002J1 combines a vertical clutch and column wheel to provide accurate measurement of elapsed time. The 42mm diameter case has a 49.5mm lug-to-lug measurement and is paired with a grey, sustainable LWG-certified leather strap. The 8R movement series has been designed by Seiko for maximum precision through three key elements: the vertical clutch eliminates shuddering or jumping of the hands when the start/stop button is pushed, enhancing chronograph accuracy and durability; the column wheel ensures precise control of chronograph operation; and the three-pointed hammer ensures that all hands return to zero instantly and in perfect synchronisation when the reset pusher is pressed.
