The SRQ055J1 celebrates a defining moment in Seiko history, drawing inspiration from the original Speedtimer introduced in 1969. This landmark timepiece was the world’s first automatic chronograph to combine a column wheel and vertical clutch, setting the benchmark for accurately measuring elapsed time and establishing design principles that remain essential in high-functionality chronographs today.

Designed with clarity and performance in mind, the hard-coated bezel features a tachymeter for speed measurement, enhancing its professional tool-watch credentials. Beneath dual-curved sapphire glass, contrasting sub-dials sit against a black dial, using differing finishes to improve legibility while maintaining a refined, technical aesthetic.

At its heart, the SRQ055J1 is powered by Seiko’s in-house 8R48 mechanical chronograph calibre, housed in a 42mm case with a 49.5mm lug-to-lug length. This advanced movement combines a vertical clutch, column wheel and three-pointed hammer to ensure precise chronograph operation, smooth hand engagement and instant, perfectly synchronised resets. As part of the Prospex collection—short for ‘Professional Specifications’—this timepiece is engineered to be practical, reliable and durable, meeting the demanding standards of sports lovers and adventure seekers alike.
